Purification approach
Kent built its reputation on RO + UV + UF with a TDS controller, and its mineral-retention approach handles high-TDS borewell water well — which is most of coastal Mangalore.
Aquaguard's strength is its breadth: models range from simple UV units for low-TDS municipal supply through to multi-stage RO with mineral boosters. If your water is soft, an Aquaguard UV unit avoids paying for an RO you do not need.
High-TDS coastal water
Above 500 ppm — common near Ullal, Thokkottu and Surathkal — you need a genuine RO stage with a membrane rated for the load. Kent's high-TDS models and Aquaguard's upper RO range both handle this; what matters is that the membrane is correctly specified and a sediment pre-filter is fitted ahead of it.
Running cost and servicing
Cartridge and membrane pricing between the two is broadly comparable. The real cost difference is service response — a purifier out of action for a week is worse than one that costs a little more per filter.
